This anniversary cake is a Mile High Devils Food Cake with Brown Sugar Buttercream. I had intended to decorate it with buttercream roses when the order was placed but then summer hit Vancouver! I did a test run on the buttercream roses a few days back and they melted into puddles within minutes so I had to make a Plan B! So this cake is decorated with gumpaste roses and the accents were done quickly with buttercream and then placed in the fridge!
I love the contrast of the bright red and the green and am making a mid year resolution to work on my piped handwriting as I wish it was neater than this! 40 years of marriage definitely deserves a big celebration! This cake is so big that it took up the entire top shelf in the fridge... And to think a few weeks from now, I am doing two cakes this size for a wedding... I'd better start clearing out the fridge now because that's going to be a lot of cake!
This 6" cake was made of three layers of chocolate-hazelnut cake filled with a Nutella filling and fresh roasted chopped hazelnuts covered in a Hazelnut-Amaretto ganache. The design was done using chocolate panels (done with chocolate transfer sheets) and a few gumpaste gerbera daisies and lettering. Perfect for a small birthday party with close family and friends!
