7/31/2009 0 Comments Sailboat CakeThis cake is a Ferrero Rocher cake and is a flavor I've been making lots of lately! The cake was carved into the shape of a sailboat. ... and then covered in lots of chocolate hazelnut ganache - yummy! The cake was then covered with a layer of hazelnut-flavored fondant. Accents such as "wood staining" on the deck, windows, life preserver, anchor and a fondant sail were then added. The name of the boat is Ladysmith in honor of the town David will be retiring to in a few years.

7/26/2009 0 Comments Sesame Street CakeThis is a carrot cake with vanilla cream cheese icing covered in vanilla-flavored fondant for a 1st Birthday party. Elmo and Cookie Monster were handmade from fondant. ...As was Big Bird, who I tried to texture to give the appearance of feathers...
I textured the fondant on the cake board to look like hardwood and cut strips into it to give the appearance of floor boards. I added "nails" with the end of a small piping tip and "stained" the floor with a mixture of brown food coloring and water. I really like this effect! 7/22/2009 1 Comment Gardening-themed retirement cakeThis is a Ferrero Rocher cake (chocolate hazelnut cake filled with toasted chopped hazelnuts and chocolate hazelnut filling covered in chocolate hazelnut ganache) carved into the shape of a flower pot. The cake was then covered in a hazelnut-flavored terracotta-tinted fondant. The retirement is being celebrated by the arrival of a labradoodle puppy this coming weekend so I have added a gumpaste replica of the pup to the cake as well as a pair of gumpaste gardening gloves, a trowel and a seed packet. The flower pot was then filled with "dirt" (Oreo cookie crumbs) and filled with a variety of gumpaste flowers. I wish Sally many happy hours in the garden with her flowers and her puppy! Happy retirement! You will be dearly missed!
7/11/2009 0 Comments Baby Shower CupcakesThese cupcakes are sour cream chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream. The
cupcake wrappers were white with pastel baby footprints on them but this doesn't show once they are baked unfortunately. Each cupcake is topped with a pastel pacifier. Sometimes simple can be best! |
