This retirement cake was a triple layered carrot cake with vanilla cream cheese icing covered in a white chocolate fondant. The retiree loves penguins so the cake needed to incorporate penguins without looking winter-y. However, her husband drives a vintage convertible and they love going on vacation to Las Vegas (who doesn't?!) so we added some of these elements made the cake less winterish. The penguins on the cake board are of varying sizes to bring in the concept of children. Before her retirement, the lady this cake is for managed a child care centre for 35 years. The car was made with rice cereal treats covered in gumpaste and is without a doubt my favorite part of this cake! The details on the car were done with gumpaste and copious quantities of silver lustre dust. The two penguins in the car are representative of the retiree and her husband. In this picture, you can see the windshield of the car which was done with a sheet of gelatin. So cute! The "Vegas" sign behind the car is done with more gumpaste surrounded by a border of silver dragees for the "lights". Happy Retirement!
