This cake was sour cream chocolate cake layers topped with crunchy pistachio praline pieces iced in a pistachio praline Italian meringue buttercream. I had just bought a Russian piping tip set so I tried it out to make flowers for the border and on the top of the cake.
Pistachio praline is made by caramelizing sugar and pouring over pistachios and then breaking it into pieces. The buttercream contained pistachio paste (which is pure heaven in anything you put it in) and finely ground pistachio praline. This might be my favorite icing ever!
