5/4/2014 1 Comment Running CakeThis cake is for the wrap party for a running clinic following a half and full marathon. The cake layers are vanilla bean sour cream cake covered with a layer of homemade caramel sauce and caramel-butterscotch buttercream. The inspiration for this cake came from classes that I've been taking lately. I didn't want it to look like another other running-themed cake I've ever seen. The top tier of the cake is decorated with gelatin sequins in a variety of shades of blue and pearl. I think this effect is so pretty! I looked up an image of the finishers medal for the race and re-created it out of fondant. The topper for the cake is a running shoe made with rice krispie treats covered in fondant with some details painted on with food coloring. The bottom tier of the cake is wrapped in fondant with an embossed design to simulate ruching. I painted some of the pleats with pearl lustre dust to give it more depth. I hope it was a great run today for everyone!
