11/29/2009 0 Comments Star Wars Lego CakeThis cake was a chocolate cake filled with strawberry mousse and iced in a vanilla bean Italian meringue buttercream. The buttercream was tinted a light sandy brown color to give the look of sand for the cake. I considered using brown sugar or graham cracker crumbs to give more texture but the flavor of either would not really have gone with this cake. I did find that the flecks of vanilla bean in the icing did help give it the appearance of a sandy terrain. The Star Wars Lego were purchased for the cake and were a lot of fun to put together too. I was very happy with how the Star Wars lettering turned out too! It was good practice because I have another (totally different design) Star Wars cake coming in December! The stars and happy birthday lettering were frosted with a gold piping gel to make them shiny and gold lustre dust was sprinkled on to the cake board to give the impression of a starry sky.
