11/21/2009 0 Comments Toy Story CakeThis cake was a sour cream chocolate cake filled with raspberry mousse and iced in a vanilla bean Italian meringue buttercream. The cake was then covered in a vanilla fondant. Additional strips of white fondant were given a wood grain finish and added to give the look of the toy box. A piece of wood grain finish white fondant was placed on top to make the top of the toy box. The "toys" lettering was done with fondant as well as was the key hole. The lettering and the blocks were made with fondant as well as was the "hardwood floor" for the cake board. I added "hinges" made from brown fondant to try and give the toy box a more authentic feel. The Toy Story characters came from The Disney Store and I love that the
birthday boy can play with these toys long after his birthday! I also love, to be honest, that I didn't have to make eight complicated gumpaste characters for this cake... Not sure I'm ready to make Buzz Lightyear out of fondant if he's less than 2 inches high! And for the record, I did most of this cake with only one hand since I had an accident with a kitchen knife earlier in the week and have a thumb full of stitches! ... I think it turned out pretty good considering!
